Solar Orbiter Sends Closest Ever Pictures of the Sun
NASA and the European Space Agency published the closest pictures of the Sun to have ever obtained on Thursday. The image were made by the Solar Orbiter spacecraft, a collaboration project of the two institutions, in mid-June.
The Solar Orbiter uses telescopes that were able to capture the upper layers of the Sun's atmosphere with a temperature of around one million degrees.
The images reveal a multitude of small flaring loops, erupting bright spots and dark, moving fibrils, know as ‘campfires'.
